- Name: The name of the Association will be the Cork Schools Orienteering Association (C.S.O.A.)
- Purpose: The purpose of the Association will be:
- To promote and encourage orienteering at primary and secondary schools in County Cork.
- To uphold and apply the Country Code.
- To encourage the participation of all its members and schools in the running of the Association’s activities.
- Affiliation: The Association will be affiliated to the Irish Orienteering Association (I.O.A.) and link with its Schools Development Officer. The Association may also affiliate with associates of mutual interest. The Association will be open to all primary and secondary schools in County Cork.
- Membership: Membership of the C.S.O.A. will be subject to the following:
Payment of an annual affiliation fee by each participating school whose cost will be decided at
- the A.G.M. each year. This payment to be made each September.
- Agreement by each participating school to abide by the rules when attending each school event such as their pupils’ behaviour, adequate insurance for events and adequate supervision by teachers and helpers of their pupils participating.
- Applications for yearly affiliation to be received by the Association’s Treasurer and seconded by one committee member.
- Any school or teacher/helper whose conduct is prejudicial to the Association shall be liable to expulsion from the Association following a meeting and a majority decision of the entire committee. Notice of expulsion shall be given, in writing, to that person and the right to present a case in writing or in person to the committee before the next committee meeting at which the decision is final. This committee meeting is to take place at least seven days after notification is received.
- All primary and secondary schools in County Cork are eligible for membership and they are responsible for the pupils they bring to the Association’s orienteering events.
- Meetings and Voting
- The A.G.M. of the Association will be held every May and any committee meetings during the year will be on a needs basis.
- An Extraordinary General Meeting (E.G.M.) will be held on request of the committee or one-fifth of the members. At least seven days notice shall be given to the committee who shall then give two weeks written notice to its members.
- Resolutions shall be passed by a simple majority of members present and voting. A quorum shall consist of one-fifth of the membership of the Association.
- At any General Meeting each member present shall have one vote only.
- Management
- The Association shall be managed by a Chairperson and a committee elected at the A.G.M.
- The Committee shall consist of at least a Secretary, a Treasurer and at least three members of the Association.
- A new Committee shall be elected each year at the A.G.M. and this committee shall appoint from its members or co-option a P.R.O. and an officer to deal with Coaching.
- If possible the positions of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer should be changed after a three year period.
- The Committee shall meet at least once a year and one other time such as around Christmas to review progress. It also reserves the right to meet at short notice if any emergency situations arise.
- The Committee shall have the power to co-opt additional members.
- All committee members are strongly urged to attend one meeting each year.
- The Committee may delegate various duties to other members of the Association such as teachers / schools subject to control by the committee.
- The Secretary shall attend to all correspondence and keep minutes of all meetings.
- The school orienteering year will be planned as follows
- A school league.
- County championships
- Coaching days
- Organising other events outside the county as applicable.
- Finance
- The Treasurer shall keep proper books of accounts and prepare an annual Income and Expenditure Account for the financial year which shall coincide with the orienteering year.
- The accounts shall be examined by members present at the A.G.M. and passed if certified to be correct.
- In the case of disbandment all surplus funds and assets shall be placed at the disposal of the I.O.A. with directions as to use.

- The Association shall not be bound by any individual action of any member.
- The Association shall have a Safety Statement which will be consulted before any event being organised.
- The Association shall not be held responsible for any injuries or deaths however occurring in the course of its activities.
- Any motion to disband has to be passed at an E.G.M. and two-thirds majority is required for disbandment.
